Ooty is situated in the Nilgiri Mountains in Tamilnadu. It is about 2240 meters high from the sea level.  This beautiful town is also known as Ootacamund.  It is near to Coimbatore and Mysore.

Nilgiri Mountain Railway Ooty

It is a toy train started in 1899 by the Government of India from Mettupalayam to Coonoor. Earlier it was up to Connor only, later it was extended up to Fernhill and Udagmandala in 1908. It runs on the one-meter gauge. Initially, it was operated by Madras Railway.  Now it is under the Southern Railway. Railway relies upon the steam locomotives. You know the steam engine runs when you add the coal to the chamber. Therefore, the speed remains under the control in every circumstance.  Then there is a craze among people to see the steam engine running on the tracks. They use diesel locomotives between Coonoor and Udhagamandalam. It is a thrill to travel in this train seeing the beautiful sites.

Ooty Lakes

There are twelve lakes in Ooty. The names are 1. Upper Bhavani Lake, 2. Emerald Lake, 3. Pykara Lake, 4. Ooty Lake, 5. Avalanche Lake, 6. North Lake, 7. Bellikkal Lake, 8. Marlimun Lake, 9. Lake District, 10. Kamaraj Sagar Lake, 11. Latchu Boss Lake, 12. Lovedale Lake.  All the lakes are very beautiful.  You can do boating at some of the lakes like Pykara Lake.

At Ooty lake, you can see plenty of Water Birds.  There are Nilgiri Mountain Ranges behind the lake.  It is a Great site for photography. There is too much crowd on the weekends. It is a beautiful site. Some of the super hit movies like ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ have been shot at Ooty Lake.  There are Pykara Falls near Pykara Lake.

Ooty Rose Garden

This is a beautiful Rose Garden in the center of the city.  It has got a variety of Roses.  There are other flowers too. It is called Jayalalitha Rose Garden also. Time to time, there are flower shows. People go to the Rose garden for picnics and get-togethers.

Botanical Garden

This is a Garden which shows the rare species of plants and trees. It was laid down in 1848 on a height of 2500 meters above the sea level.  The climate of the place suits many rare trees.

Thread Garden

Antony Joseph had created the flowers and plants made out of various threads in this garden.  This is a very beautiful garden and a great attraction for visitors.

The best about the Thread Flowers is that they do not wither or dry up. These are the evergreen plants and flowers which do not need water or soil. This mega garden is situated in front of Ooty Boat House. These flowers are made out of the woven fabric, wire and gum.

Antony Joseph made 4 dimensional embroidered creations. The leaves and petals are cut out of the fabric and colored according to the flower, you want to make.

This is a unique garden one of its kind in the world.

Kalhatti Falls

People call it ‘Bird Watchers Paradise’.  It gives you a bird’s eye view of the whole beautiful valley.  There is a Bellikkal Lake which contains fresh water. Many elephants visit this lake. The whole site is a great attraction for tourists.

Dolphin’s Nose, Coonoor

There is a protruding rock looks like the nose of a Dolphin. It is 1550 meters high from the sea level. You can view the beautiful site of Catherine Falls.  You can view the point where the two streams Coonoor and Kotagiri meet.  It is 10 Kilometers from Coonoor.  There are tea plantations on the way.

Deer Park Ooty

It is near Ooty Lake. There are not only deer.  You can see hares, rabbits, birds, and other species. There are a few places near Deer Park where you can hang out. You can find Sambar, Chithals there and can enjoy the Ooty Lake.

There are other plenty of Tourist Places in Ooty such as Trekking Site, Tiger Hill, Annamalai Temple, Doddabetta Peak, Droog Fort, Lamb’s Rock, Simi’s Park, Bison Valley, St. Stephen’s Church, Wenlock Downs, Thunder World, Ketti Valley View, Cairn Hill, Wax Museum, Lake Park, Children’s Park etc.
